| "Water
needs no human, but humans need water"
Jens
started paddling at the local canoe club in Brandenburg,
North Germany, and became addicted to travel. After
a few years of flatwater kayaking his interest in
whitewater grew, and so he moved – after finishing
school – to a little village in South Bavaria,
one of the best areas for whitewater kayaking in Germany.
Following this many trips were taken throughout the
Alps, to Norway, Turkey, Great Britain and New Zealand. |

A
Paddling photographer or a photographer who paddles?
To
answer this question can be confusing: a paddler who
takes pictures isn’t necessarily a "photographer"
- professional photographers who paddle are rare to
find. So how can you define a "photographer"?
When people like your pictures, or only when you have
a photography qualification? For Jens this seems irrelevant,
he loves both - paddling and taking pictures. Since
he began whitewater kayaking he wanted to give people
an impression of what kayaking means to him. So he
started photographing - to bring images of waterfalls,
rapids, boats and kayakers lifestyles into the homes
of other. What are a thousand words, if you can show
it all in one picture? The professional SLR camera
replaced the point-and-shoot camera, prints were replaced
by slides. |

| "Paddle
movies are not stupid, they are just a reflection of
your own stupidity" The
fascinating reality of motion picture: Jens and friends
edited their first movie „LSK Stizza“
in their teenage years. The goal was to combine the
fun of skateboarding, BMX, snowboarding and kayaking
alike. Today his partner is Olaf Obsommer. Their first
colaboration was „Painkiller“ in 2001,
followed by „Young Fresh n New“ a year
later. With „Painkiller 2“ they won a
first prize at the National Paddling Film Festival
in the USA. Their latest works are the movie „Sick
Line 3“ and a whitewater guide book for Norway. |

| So
besides photography is there still time for Jens, as a kayaker,
to follow his passion and do what he likes best? Not enough
maybe the response! Despite this Jens will always smile when
the grey rainy days arrive, knowing he is able to leave his
camera at home and just go and do what he does best ... to
run the river. |
